It’s with great sadness, we share the news of the passing of Steve Rye, owner of Sole Survivor.

Rye was the eyes and ears of Maplewood; a community leader, always looking out for the best interest of our small business community. He was a master in his craft of leather making with over 50+ years of experience. He took tremendous pride in both his work and impressive workshop (which was meticulously organized).

The only thing that rivaled Steve’s dedication to Sole Survivor was to his family, especially Kay, his wife and co-owner of the store, for whom he treasured.

On behalf of the Maplewood business community, we extend our deepeset condolences and prayers to the Rye family and to his wide network of friends, fellow artisans, neighbors, and customers who will miss him dearly.
